EDUCATION & WELLBEING
Supporting Education
Education is one of the foundation’s most important priorities.
Yet many times I have failed to pay the school fees on time because most of the finances come from sponsors and charities who donate according to their pace and financial ability, which can sometimes mean fewer donations to keep everything going. Keep in mind that we do not receive any donations from the government.
We also manage such difficult times because we only use selected schools and we have a large number of children at their schools, so we get discretion from the schools. When we receive donations again, we pay off the school debts and food first.
Monitoring the Children's School Progress
I personally follow the children's progress in school.
I visit the schools at least once each week to ask about the children’s attendance, behavior, and academic performance. In many cases, I personally take the children to school and sometimes pick them up as well. This allows me to stay closely involved in their daily lives.
I also keep regular contact with the class teachers of each child to receive feedback about their learning progress.
At the end of every school year, I carefully review each child’s academic report, which shows their performance in the tests conducted during each school term.
Food, Clothing, and Healthcare
Providing daily care for the children is essential.
Meals are served at the foundation at the same time for all children, ensuring that everyone receives lunch and dinner together. If a child misses a meal, they can inform either the matron or me directly so we can make sure they are served.
When food shortages occur, we sometimes purchase food on credit, paying the suppliers later when donations arrive. To manage this responsibly, we usually plan food spending one to two months ahead.
Each child receives three to four pairs of clothing upon joining the foundation, and we aim to provide new clothing every six months. Many additional clothes are donated by supporters abroad whose children have outgrown them.
Healthcare is available 24 hours a day. A nearby hospital provides treatment whenever a child becomes sick, and the foundation settles the bills monthly. Because the hospital is only a short distance away, the children can receive immediate care. In more serious cases, we transport them to larger hospitals located five to ten minutes away.
Main Monthly Expenses
The foundation’s biggest ongoing expenses include:
-
Food
-
School fees
-
Medical care
-
Water and electricity bills
-
Transportation during school periods
-
Internet and television services
-
Rent for the facility
-
Security services
These basic operational costs are where the majority of donations are used.
